WOLFEBORO, N.H. —
The killing of a Wolfeboro woman on Mother's Day in 2009 remains unsolved.
Stacey Burns, 41, was found stabbed to death in her home at 109 North Main Street.
The school nurse and mother of five was stabbed multiple times while two of her children and some of their friends slept in nearby rooms.
The children told officials they didn't hear anything.
Burns' 15-year-old son, Michael, found his mother's body in her bedroom.
"I couldn't even believe it," Michael Burns told WMUR in 2013. "It was really tough getting that image out of my head. It's still there."
Stacey Burns and her husband, Ed, were going through a divorce at the time. Ed Burns was never named a suspect or person of interest in the case.
After their mother's death, the children continued to live at the home. Ed Burns moved back in with the children to be with them. They stayed there for a year.
In a 2013 interview, Michael Burns addressed the speculation surrounding his father.
"I know my mom and dad would get into arguments now and then, but my dad would never touch my mother like that," he said.
In 2019, Associate Attorney General Jeff Strelzin told WMUR the Attorney General's Office has worked extensively on the case.
"I can tell you that our office and state police have worked on this case for thousands and thousands of hours," Strelzin said. "There's a group of dedicated people on this case and remain dedicated to try and get justice for Stacey and her family."
As of last year, authorities were actively investigating this case over a period of at least several months. No one has ever been charged.
