"BATH, N.Y. (WETM) – The Village of Bath Police Department has reopened the missing persons’ case of 24-year-old Barbara Jean Aleksivich, who disappeared in 1973, and have named a new suspect.
According to Bath Police, they received a tip from a cold case investigator in Missoula County, Montana regarding a DNA match with Richard W. Davis, who previously lived in Bath in the 1960s and 70s and died approximately eight years ago.
Aleksivich was last seen at the local Elks lodge in the vicinity of Gansevoort Street and Williams Street in Bath on October 3, 1973. She left her husband there and began walking the two blocks to their home in the 100 block of east William Street, but she never arrived and has never been heard from again.
Aleksivich was described at the time of her disappearance as a white female with brown hair, hazel eyes, weighing 140 lbs, and standing 5’6 tall. She was last seen wearing a white blouse, a green pullover sweater, a blue and white plaid skirt, and brown loafers.
Village of Bath Police Chief Chad Mullen tells 18 News that an original suspect, Frederick Bush, was not involved as originally theorized."
The Missoula County investigators allege that Davis is connected to the kidnapping, sexual assault, and murder of five-year-old Siobhan McGuinness in February 1974.
Davis was known to police during the time of his residency in the Bath area and was arrested on multiple occasions in connection to alleged child lurings. He built a home on Mail Route Road in Bath and worked at the Polly-O dairy.
In September, the Bath Police Department asked residents for any information regarding Davis.
