I’m happy a new Top Ten Fugitive was added to the list, and there’s a hefty price tag on El Gato’s head.
I’m still a bit surprised they added someone associated with the Beltran Leyva Cartel, as they have morphed into Fausto Meza-Flores’ Organization in recent years.
This case shows us that the Mexican drug war spills over into the U.S. state of Texas and that when the cartels commit crimes on U.S. soil, the gloves have to come off and we need to work with Mexican law enforcement to capture this individual.
He’s believed to be a regional leader in San Pedro Garza Garcia, Nuevo León, Mexico, which is a very wealthy area.

This really came out of left field, we're discussing all these cases already on the site that might be added and then a guy we never heard of (until now) is the new addition lol.
In any case, they said he had a personal grudge so perhaps this particular murder wasn't even drug-related. Or even if it was, he's apparently orchestrating shooting at the guy at broad daylight in a busy shopping center where there were plenty of innocent bystanders who could have been hurt. So this wasn't/isn't a guy only dangerous to other criminals, but innocent citizens as well.

It’s a very awful case especially considering the fact that it all boiled down to a personal grudge, I guess it’s extremely lethal and when someone who is a regional commander of a cartel asks his subordinates to take out someone he disliked for whatever reason it may have been.

With Villarreal-Hernandez, the reason the FBI is taking this so seriously is because the victim was a government informant. Not only that, but he toyed with the victim: he stalked him for two years. Then, when the murder occurred, it happened in public and could have easily resulted in the deaths of innocent people.
While a left-field addition, I agree with it. I wouldn’t doubt based on the information that he is responsible for more homicides in the U.S.

Agreed. I explained in the general dicussion thread I first saw "drug-trafficking murder" and I was like "ugh this isn't the 1980s" but then I actually read more about the case and realized it's a lot more than that and agree with this decision/addition. Villarreal-Hernandez might be a cartel/international organization guy, but I consider this a domestic murder case as well because of the location where it happened. It doesn't excuse any murder, but it's a miracle no one else was killed in that parking lot.

I think the part that bothered me in reading about Villarreal-Hernandez’ crimes the most was what the FBI Agent said. “He’s a ruthless guy.”

A bit off topic, but Jose Rodolfo Villarreal-Hernandez’s addition to the Ten Most Wanted List is very fitting considering the fact that high profile individuals like Brad Bishop have been removed, and Yaser Said being caught in recent years, that it makes sense to get a case like this to boost the FBI Top Ten List in terms of publicity. This case definitely will fill a vacuum that has been left since Yaser Said’s capture and I think it also fills a personal void on the list I’ve felt since Brad Bishop was removed.
This is actually the first time in nearly 10 years that we’ve had more than 1 fugitive with rewards in the millions. Last time was when Bulger, Bin Laden, and Gerena were on the list in 2010/2011.

According to this article, one of the men already tried for the murder of Juan Jesus Guerrero Chapa (The Victim) allegedly states that “El Gato” and Guerrero-Chapa’s families feuded in their home town of China (not to be confused with the country), in Nuevo León State, a suburb of the Monterey/San Pedro Garza García area. Reportedly after the murder of Juan Chapa, “El Gato” received a video of his sister being beheaded which made him more angry. amp.star-telegram.com/news/local/community/northeast-tarrant/article74797947.html

This case gives new meaning to the phrase "fight that spilled out into the parking lot." Usually that means a bar fight, not stalking a guy for two years and having hired assaassins take him down. Regardless of how innocent or not Chapa was as a person, that's just brutal. And of course the concern here is Villarreal-Hernandez seeming to still not be satisfied and in fact even more angry after killing his victim- it makes you fear what he could do next when seeking out revenge.

I agree. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised as I mentioned earlier if he’s under investigation for more homicides in the United States. We do know he is also suspected in ten homicides in Mexico. I don’t think he’s going to be an easy capture, either. The poster says he could be anywhere from Monterrey, Mexico to Mexico City, Mexico, which is a 564-mile distance.

I don’t know how this may be relevant in this case but it turns out that former Mexican Defense Minister Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda has been arrested while vacationing in Los Angeles this week and he’s accused to protecting the Beltran Leyva Cartel, the same organization José Villarreal-Hernández is a leader of in the Monterey, Mexico area. Cienfuegos used his influence to tip off the leaders, as well as target the BLO’s rivals, even allowing vessels to transport drugs out at sea. nationalpost.com/news/world/u-s-detains-mexicos-ex-defence-minister-a-top-drug-war-figure-on-dea-warrant

Well it seems the arrest of former Mexican defense minister, General Salvador Cienfuegos and the addition of Jose Villarreal-Hernandez to the FBI 10 Most Wanted List, within a span of 2 days, is in fact that both events are clearly connected to one another. The man General Cienfuegos was in touch with was Juan Francisco Patron Sanchez aka “El H2” promising that the Mexican navy would avoid any skirmishes between them and the Beltran Leyva Cartel. Jose Villarreal-Hernandez is said to be the brains behind the Beltrán-Leyva Cartel and that El Gato was El H2’s superior. However El H2 was shot and killed in Tepic, Mexico on February 10, 2017, which basically means “El Gato” is the key needed to unlock everything he knows and pay for what happened in Texas in 2013. www.grillonautas.mx/la-conexion-entre-el-gato-buscado-por-el-fbi-y-salvador-cienfuegos/
