SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- When Syracuse police spotted a man wanted for threatening his ex-girlfriend with a knife, they tried to arrest him last week.
Jonathan Sanford, 24, didn’t stop, police said.
As he tried to drive away, his car struck a Syracuse patrol car and hit an officer, Syracuse police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Malinowski said Tuesday. The incident happened about 2 p.m. July 7 in the 800 block of First North Street.
As officers Aaron Cecile and Christopher Hallenbeck got out of their patrol car, Sanford again tried to drive away, Malinowski said. That’s when Sanford’s car struck Cecile in leg, he said.
Cecile was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, where he was treated and released, Malinowski said.
Police said they have not been able to find Sanford, whose last known address was 347 Gertrude St., Syracuse.
On Tuesday, Syracuse police released Sanford’s photo -- a mugshot from a prior arrest -- and asked for the public’s help to locate him. Police said Sanford is 5 feet, 3 inches tall, about 140 pounds, with brown eyes.
Sanford is still wanted on an outstanding domestic-related arrest warrant from May 24.
In the earlier case, Sanford is accused of threatening his ex-girlfriend with a knife while they argued in the 300 block of Barnes Avenue, Malinowski said. When he is arrested, Sanford will be charged with second-degree menacing, police said.
Sanford also is now wanted on several new charges including second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and numerous traffic violations.

Thoughts? As of this posting date (July 20th, 2020), Sanford is still listed as having a warrant in Onondaga County's public access online search, granted they only mention the second degree menacing charge but that is enough for me to reasonably assume he is still at large as of the aforementioned posting date: sheriff.ongov.net/awarrants/
