Case Summary (note: parts of case summary influenced by Anchoarge Daily News article from 2013):
Harold Napoleon was a respected Alaska Native leader living in the small, coastal village of Hooper Bay when he killed his 4-year-old son in 1984. He beat the boy to death in a drunken rage. According to online articles, Napoleon has claimed to have regretted it for every breathing moment since. He has claimed he was so drunk he does not remember what happened.
Napoleon confessed to murder, was sentenced to prison, and spent nine years behind bars. While in prison, he wrote a book titled "Yuuuyaraq: The Way of the Human Being." The book argued Alaska Natives suffered from generations of trauma, and it helped make Napoleon a leading figure in efforts to address the many woes of rural Alaska.
When Napoleon got out of prison, he moved to Anchorage. He started work as the tribal administrator for the Native village of Paimiut, a place near Hooper Bay. He had been on parole for two decades up until the year 2013.
At least twice, his parole had come close to ending before 2013, but he had been caught drinking and his parole had been extended, according to online articles. Earlier in the summer of 2013, he failed to report to his parole officer as required, and a warrant was put out for his arrest.
Napoleon is now listed on Anchorage Crime Stoppers as having a parole warrant for murder as of this posting date (April 26th, 2020). I put 2019 with a question mark since I do not know if this is a new warrant or if it is in regards to the warrant he had from 2013. In any case, Napoleon allegedly failed to take advantage of his post-prison opportunities at least once if not twice.

Thoughts? To be honest, I don't want to sound judgmental as Alaska I'm sure is a far different world from the rest of America and Native Americans have a history of unfair treatment, but the sympathetic tone articles give to a guy who had beat his own 4-year-old son to death kind of disturbs me. Some would argue you should never get out of prison for that whether you were supposedly so drunk you don't remember or not. Also, those truly remorseful do not squander literally every opportunity given to them which I feel Napoleon has done. Napoleon should do the responsible thing and turn himself in. I agree alcoholism is a disease, but it doesn't give you the right to continually break the law, especially after committing such a heinous crime. There are men and women who have done far less that have gotten less chances.
