Wade Angel stated on Find Chris Ponce on Facebook that he's frustrated by constant hearings and he wants Ponce to go to trial already. He fears Ponce wants a deal and does not want one. I said I felt Ponce and his attorneys were trying to go for a plea deal and it looks like I was right, but my feeling is he squandered that opportunity when he cut off his ankle monitor and fled to Spain so I hope that doesn't happen.
One of his other posts also said Ponce complained to the Judge that he looked at him! Ponce should be so lucky that wall Wade did was look at him after what happened to William.

New Fox Tampa interview with Wade Angel. He's disappointed with the paperwork setback, but still ready to face Ponce in court. Also, what's most important is getting justice for William in the grand scheme of things, but just wanted to mention the newest media coverage lately directly credits The Hunt for Ponce's capture. The Hunt frustratingly doesn't have a direct capture counter like AMW had (I've been clamoring for one for years), but I think they'd probably count him if they did. Same with Ty and Tisa Yiyara. www.fox13news.com/news/local-news/international-fugitive-may-get-break-due-to-prosecutions-error

Ponce is going to plead guilty and it looks like it will be an open plea, meaning the judge gets the final say. Here's hoping he gets close to the 25-35 years he can get for what he did.

Watching tweets from the sentencing and Ponce is tearfully apologizing to William's family and asking for forgiveness. IMO, it's all crocodile tears. If he had been truly sorry for what he had done, he would have plead guilty and faced the consequences for his actions a long time ago, not gone on the run for three years and prolonging the legal torture for everyone involved. He's sorry he was caught and nothing more and hopefully the judge sees that.

The sentence was just handed down. 15 years in prison (which means he won't be out until 2030 at the earliest) for the DUI manslaughter of William Angel, 10 years probation for the injuries to the two other victims and he can never drive again. Not the max time in prison that he could have gotten but overall, much better sentence then many of these DUI killers get. Now William's family can mourn their loss and no longer have to deal with his killer. Wish the best for them going forward.

Unfortunately, a little disappointed. Should have been 25 at least with no probation because of his going on the run rather than accepting the consequences of his actions in the first place. Like the Carey Price case, I also wonder how they will monitor the rule that they can never drive again. He may have been crying today, but in my opinion, it was because he was sorry he got caught.
I am glad he finally apologized, however. I do usually hope for these DUI fugitives to turn their life around when they get out of prison, since most of them do get out of prison, fair or unfair, but most of the time they don't and go back to their old habits.
I also hope the family and friends of William Angel do have a final sense of relief (I would never call it closure- since closure would mean William being alive again) that the legal drama is finally over.

According to Wade Angel on the Find Chris Ponce Facebook page, Ponce could actually be eligible for parole in 11 years.
However, if he violates parole, he will be sent back to prison for another 20 years.
Although it's less than what he wanted, he accepts the plea deal.

I also am disappointed it seems no one in Ponce's family at least to an outside observer's view was looked seriously enough at by prosecutors to see if they aided and abetted his escape from justice.
However I am assuming there may be civil suits in that regard.

However, if he violates parole, he will be sent back to prison for another 20 years. Although it's less than what he wanted, he accepts the plea deal. Under Florida law, inmates have to serve 85% of their sentences before they can be eligible for release. There actually is no parole in Florida so after he does 85%, it will be the Florida Department of Corrections call with gain time to decide when to release him. As for the probation term, if he violates it, it will be the judge's call how much time he'll get. Thankfully though, that issue won't have to be dealt with for another 11 years at least. I too would have liked more time but I knew that when there was a word of a deal brewing, he wasn't going to get the max sentence he could have gotten. Just how the system works in most plea deals. Having said that, he did get the max for DUI manslaughter and his probation will give him a chance to see if he truly meant what he said when he gets out. I will say this, it did look like it finally dawned on him what he's in for and that if he had shown true remorse and plead guilty when this crash happened,he could have gotten probation or lesser jail time then what he's facing now along with forgiveness from William's family. He threw that away and instead will be spending the rest of his 20's and a lot of his 30's in prison. And he has no one but himself to blame for that.
