The U.S. Marshals Service is asking for the public's help in locating a convicted rapist with ties to the Genoa area for violating his parole and failure to register as a sex offender with the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office.
Marshals are offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads directly to the arrest of William Ward, 40. Ward was released on parole on Dec. 19, 2016 after serving part of his six-year sentence for a second-degree rape conviction.
"Our task force will use all of our available resources with our federal, state and local law enforcement partners to bring this fugitive to justice," Northern District of New York U.S. Marshal David McNulty said in a release.
Ward is described as white, 5 foot 8 inches tall, and weighing approximately 195 pounds.
Details regarding the nature of Ward's parole violation were unavailable Wednesday.
The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision also lists Ward as one of its most wanted fugitives, and describes him as armed and dangerous, warning anyone who encounters Ward to never attempt to apprehend him.
In 2012, Cayuga County Court Judge Mark Fandrich sentenced Ward to six years after he pleaded guilty to raping a teenage girl on six different occasions.
At that time, Fandrich said he only agreed to sentence Ward to six years, rather than District Attorney Jon Budelmann's requested seven years, in order to spare the victim from having to testify at trial.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the U.S. Marshals Service Communications Center at (800) 336-0102 or the Onondaga County Tip Line at (315) 473-7625. Tips can also be submitted online at usmarshals.gov/tips.

Thoughts? As of this posting date (7/30/2019), Ward is still listed as one of the New York DOC's Most Wanted fugitives: 161.11.133.89/mostwanted/mostwanted2.asp
Also, I put 2018 with a question mark as the wanted year since I don't know exactly when Ward became officially wanted, only that the first article seeking his whereabouts is from 2018: www.rochesterfirst.com/news/cayuga-county-sheriffs-office-searching-for-genoa-sex-offender/
In any case, this man wanted literally out of John Walsh's backyard in Upstate NY, where Mr. Walsh grew up and still has a home. So I hope they can consider him for 15 seconds of shame for Season 2 of In Pursuit and/or at least post on their Facebook page about him.
