In 2013, Shelda Armand was accused of the attempted murder of her own seven-month-old child.
Armand lived with her father at the time and according to a local news story, the argument happened after Armand got into an argument with her father (whom she lived with) about her ability to take care of the child
According to the news story which detailed the police report:
"Her father told deputies that Armand "made threats to 'kill' her child because she did not want to live at home with her father and felt if the child was gone she would be free of responsibility," according to the report.
Her father told investigators that he heard crying in one of the bedrooms of their Mangonia Park home Wednesday night, and when he went in to check on the baby, he saw Armand "standing over the victim with both of her hands wrapped tightly around the victim's neck and was trying to suffocate her," the report said."
Armand's stepmother was said to have corroborated the story and said that Armand told her she had intended to kill the baby and herself.
Armand would eventually be attempted second degree murder. However, according to a search of Florida's inmate records, she was sentenced to only three years in prison and paroled in 2016.
However, Armand would eventually become wanted for probation violation. According to search of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's public access wanted persons database, the warrant was issued on Decembwe 27th, 2018.
It is unclear why Armand became wanted or how she allegedly violated probation from anything I could find online. However, as of this posting date (6/28/2019), she is still listed as wanted on the aforementioned free warrants search site as well as the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office's website's Most Wanted persons listings.
Thoughts? This is just speculation on my part, but I wonder if there was some sort of mental illness issue as to the reason for the shockingly light sentence. Regardless, someone convicted of attempted murder of an infant needs to be located.
The inmate search profile also mentions something about her on an ICE detainer at one point. So I'm assuming she may be from a foreign country and once again this is speculation from me but based on Florida's proximity I assume she may be from Jamaica or a neighboring Caribbean country. Although if I am incorrect, anyone is more than welcome to set the record straight.
