wgntv.com/2018/08/10/man-convicted-following-11-year-wait-for-trial/CHICAGO — A man sitting behind bars at the Cook County Jail for more than a decade finally received his day in court and was found guilty.
After waiting 11 years, Alex Daniel’s trial started three months after the initial WGN Investigates story aired. He was charged with killing his wife Brenda Daniel Parnell back in 2007. Daniel switched lawyers several times, had 12 judges and 129 continuances in those 11 years.
I was looking up AMW Captures in Illinois corrections to see their status and found AMW #964 Alex Daniel is serving a 65 year sentence(not up for release until 2072) for the murder of his wife Brenda Parnell committed back in May of 2007. What caught my eye was the date he was admitted to prison, which was December 14,2018. And the reason for that is it took eleven years after he was busted by AMW viewers for him to go to trial due to him firing his lawyers and filing complaint after complaint in order to delay his trial. I know we've talked about the wheels of justice grinding slowly but this case takes the cake. I'm glad Brenda's family and friends got the justice they deserved in the end but it never should have taken as long as it did for them to get it especially since this guy wasn't in a foreign country etc. when he got caught.
