Thought this would make an interesting tidbit is that there have essentially been five incarnations of John Walsh's fugitive shows- America's Most Wanted on Fox which debuted in 1988, America's Most Wanted rebranded as America's Most Wanted: America Fights Back as the show came back from cancellation in 1996, America's Most Wanted on Lifetime as the show moved from Fox to cable in December of 2011, The Hunt with John Walsh on CNN in 2014, and now In Pursuit with John Walsh which debuted back in January of this year. The following were the first captures from each show:
America's Most Wanted (original)- Debuted February 7th, 1988. First capture: David James Roberts (wanted out of Indiana, first fugitive broadcast. Capture in Staten Island, New York on February 11th, 1988.
America's Most Wanted: America Fights Back- Debuted: November 9th, 1996. First Capture: Alan Eugene White (wanted out of Salina, Kansas, first fugitive broadcast. Captured in Boston, Massachusetts on November 9th, 1996. (Literally a half hour after broadcast)
America's Most Wanted on Lifetime: Debuted: December 2nd, 2011. First Capture: Antonio Barnes and Earl Jackson. (Wanted out of Washington D.C. Captured in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 14th, 2012.)
The Hunt with John Walsh: Debuted: July 13th, 2014. First Capture: Charles Mozdir. Wanted out of Coronado, California. Shot and killed by authorities on July 28th, 2014 in New York City, NY.)
In Pursuit with John Walsh: Debuted: January 16th, 2019. First Capture: Luis Frias. Wanted out of Blackwell, Oklahoma. Captured in suburban Guadalajara, Mexico on February 6th, 2019. (officially extradited back to U.S. on February 7th, 2019)
A few interesting tidbits:
-The first fugitive aired on each show was caught except for AMW on Lifetime (where Margaret Smith is still at large at the time of this posting) and The Hunt with John Walsh. Only Shane Miller on the Hunt was not a direct result. However it turned out Shane Miller and Kevin Stoeser were both apparently already deceased when The Hunt aired them so the first fugitive that was then alive and on the run, Charles Mozdir was caught/killed. (Heck, if you want, you can also count when The Hunt moved to HLN in 2017 and caught the debut fugitive from that show was captured (Dino Curcio wanted out Iowa and Colorado and caught in suburban Chicago), so you can say either 3 out of 5 or four out of 6 or even 4 out of 5 or 5 out of 6 since Mozdir was actually the first alive fugitive from The Hunt lol).
-Despite Mexico being the undisputed #1 destination for fugitives currently, Luis Frias is surprisingly the first ever "first" capture in Mexico or any foreign country for a John Walsh-hosted show, even though his shows obviously have caught many fugitives in Mexico or other countries after debut. (Also, just want to stress this is not a racial thing even though Frias happened to be Hispanic as Mexico has become the favorite place to flee for fugitives of any race or background). All other captures have happened on the east coast, with two in New York (the first two true separate John Walsh shows- AMW and The Hunt- both saw their first captures in New York City!)
(Also if you want to count it, Justice Network, which John Walsh is involved with saw their first capture in Carlos Manso, a robbery suspect in Buffalo, New York!)
-Despite the history of violent fugitives profiled, only Charles Mozdir wound up being killed as a result of arrest.
-Antonio Barnes and Earl Jackson have the unique distinction of being the only double capture as a first capture for an incarnation of a John Walsh show.
Any other thoughts/insights everyone?
