Authorities are trying to identify the killer of nine-year old Kesean Williams. I wanted to mention this case since I live in Canada. The following is from a recent article about this case.
Peel police are offering a $25,000 reward for any information that leads to a conviction in the shooting death of a nine-year-old Brampton boy.
Kesean Williams was sitting in his house watching television with his 15-year-old brother when he was struck by a stray bullet on Jan. 23, 2013.
“Exactly a year ago today…our community experienced one of its darkest hours,” Insp. George Koekkoek said at a news conference on Thursday.
Police had responded to a shooting call on Ardglen Drive, near Kennedy Road South and Clarence Street, around 10:30 p.m., and found Williams suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital, where he later died.
The cause of death was a single gunshot to the head. The bullet had entered through the window of the home. His family had moved into the home just days before the shooting.
“There was no altercation that preceded the shooting,” Koekkoek said.
Police believe the residence was targeted and said evidence from the scene indicates the shooter was standing immediately outside the window when the shot was fired.
“We’re still working to confirm who that shot was meant for and why,” Koekkoek said.
Police have identified and interviewed the previous tenant of the home.
Officers said Thursday they would be releasing surveillance video and photos of the scene, which show three men in the area just before the shooting. They may be suspects, persons of interest or witnesses, police said.
They also have video of one man seen leaving the area just after the shooting. He is considered a suspect.
Police also have video of Williams leaving the YMCA with his mother hours before he was shot. Police are asking anyone who saw Williams on his way home from the YMCA to contact them.
Koekkoek said someone in the community has knowledge of the shooting and wants to come forward and “do the right thing.”
Police have set up a command centre on Ardglen and have established a tip line. Anyone with information can call (905) 795-7712.
Thoughts? Early on in the investigation, neighbours and building officials believed the previous tenant of the apartment was a suspected drug dealer, so that person may have been the target.
