SAYREVILLE On Thursday, members of the Sayreville Police Department took time to remember a 17-year-old girl killed 17 years ago, using the one of the most popular forms of communication today.
On Facebook, the police department posted a notice indicating they will "never stop" looking to solve Nancy Noga's 1999 death. In referencing the 1990s killing of 5-year-old Timothy Wiltsey, the post stated "members of this department don't give up so easily."
Noga was reported missing by her family on Jan. 7, 1999.
A senior at Sayreville War Memorial High School, Noga was apparently killed while making the 15-minute walk from her part-time job at the Rag Shop store on Route 9 in Old Bridge to the Skytop Gardens apartment complex off Ernston Road where she lived with her father and stepmother.
Who killed Nancy Noga of Sayreville?
A massive search was conducted in an effort to locate Noga.
Five days later, on Jan. 12, 1999 a man walking his dog spotted Noga's frozen body in a wooded area behind the Mini Mall located at 499 Ernston Road, Sayreville, the Facebook post states. She was wearing a purple Arizona jacket, a dark V-neck sweater, light blue flare jeans and black and white platform sneakers. She had been carrying a purple backpack
The location is across from the apartment complex where she lived. Noga's death is believed to result from a blow to the head from a blunt object.
"This is still and will remain an active case," the Facebook posting states. "There is no statute of limitations for murder and we remain resolved to solve this case and bring the responsible party to justice."
The nonprofit Crime Stoppers of Middlesex County is offering a $1,000 reward for anonymous information that leads to the arrest of a suspect in the Noga case.
In the first two hours after the Sayreville police Facebook posting nearly 150 people indicated they liked in and about 20 left comments about remembering Noga's death, and praising police for their continued efforts to find her killer.
