From the New Orleans Advocate website (advocate.com):
Officials have named a man wanted on a count of second-degree murder in a deadly stabbing in the Freret neighborhood earlier this year.
Martin Jose Jarquin Estrada is accused of killing fellow Nicaraguan national Elkin Corrales on Feb. 19 and remained at large Thursday. Crimestoppers released a poster displaying Jarquin's picture and announcing a $2,500 reward for tips leading to his arrest and indictment.
According to authorities, New Orleans police found a bloodied Corrales atop a mattress on the ground while investigating a report of a stabbing in the 4600 block of Clara Street. Corrales went to a hospital for treatment but died there.
Days after the stabbing, a man identified as Corrales' brother told a Nicaraguan news outlet that Jarquin killed Corrales during a fight that occurred while the two men were drinking. The brother told the station that Jarquin was upset that he had lost to Corrales during a scuffle to see who fought better.
Jarquin and Corrales hailed from the same town, and the suspected killer came to the United States with the help of his victim's family, the Nicaraguan news outlet La Prensa reported.
When asked about the Nicaraguan media story, New Orleans police declined to confirm that Jarquin was suspected in Corrales' slaying.
Corrales had lived in the United States for less than two years, made ends meet by painting, and had a 1-year-old son in Nicaragua, his brother said.
Anyone who knows where Jarquin is can call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.

Thoughts? I can't even begin to tell you how much this case pisses me off. Martin is able to come to America to try to start a new life for himself thanks to Elkin Corrales family, and how does he repay them? By allegedly murdering Elkin over a stupid argument over who fought better. That was really worth killing a man who had a 1-year old son? I also have seen too many cases where the alleged motive for murder is the deceased victim got the better of the suspect in a fight. Killing with a gun after losing a fight just makes Martin a coward if that's how it all went down.
The Hunt recently aired Henry Nunez-Godinez, a California murder suspect who is believed to have fled to his native Nicaragua. It will be interesting to see how the progress in that case goes in order to determine what the future may hold here should Jarquin-Estrada have fled there as well.
Of course, don't just assume Jarquin-Estrada is anywhere at the moment, and if you think you know where he is, whether it be this country, or any other country, do the right thing, get justice for Elkin Corrales family, and call New Orleans Crime Stoppers.
