Learned today that Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong died in prison back in April at the age of 68. AMW fans will remember her as the named mastermind behind the "Erie Collar Bombing" plot where an older pizza delivery man named Brian Wells robbed an Erie, Pennsylvania bank with a weird bomb contraction strapped to his chest and was later intercepted by police on a public road. He died at the scene while they were waiting for the bomb squad to arrive to remove ir. It is believed Diehl-Armstrong hatched the plot to pay a man named Ken Barnes to kill her father and collect his insurance money. A former substitute science teacher named William Rothstein made the bomb itself. (He died from cancer before he could be put on trial). Barnes testified against Diehl-Armstrong at trial to receive a lighter sentence. AMW aired the case multiple times but it seems to be great local investigative work that cracked it. To this day, there is still a lot of controversy as to what Brian Wells role was. Police believe he was a willing participant in what he thought was a scavenger-hunt type game and didn't realize the danger he was in. Wells family disputes that and believes he was forced against his will to wear the bomb and rob the bank. In any case, thus ends another chapter to one of the most bizarre cases in AMW history. www.nydailynews.com/news/national/woman-bizarre-pa-bank-robbery-bomb-plot-dies-prison-article-1.3019887

Well There one dangerous criminal off the streets, However this case is yet to be solved. You're wrong, the case was solved and everyone involved was either sentenced to jail or dead. The only mystery left is whether Brian Wells robbed the bank on purpose or if he was forced to. Cops believe he robbed it on purpose but was tricked. (As I explained earlier, police say he initially thought it was a scavenger hunt and didn't know the bomb was real and/or didn't know it wouldn't eventually be deactivated)

The Brian Wells Pizza bomb case was the inspiration for a "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" episode. "Pas De Deux" was the episode title. There was even a mention from Detective Eames about a connected case that was profiled on a fictional tv show called "American Fugitive."
The criminal mastermind in that episode was played by Charles Rocket (the man who uttered the "F" word on "Saturday Night Live" and got fired from the show) in one of his final performances before his suicide in 2005.
The Brian Wells case was also the inspiration for the 2011 raunchy comedy "30 Minutes or Less" about two pizza delivery guys getting involved in an elaborate criminal plan by a gang of crooks.
