So I realized besides the death rumor thread (which I correctly cautioned everyone to be cautiously optimstic and it turned out to be rumor) I realized we didn't actually have a thread on the man described as the "Most Wanted Man In The World" and John Walsh's #6 Most Wanted fugitive of 2001 (I didn't put one specific year in the title since Guzman has been at this for decades). Guzman of course is the leader of the "Sinoloa" cartel. This is a guy where even the most vocal critic of the War on Drugs has to admit this is the baddest dude imaginable, with lots of blood shed said to be at his hands, including in the re-enactment above, five members of the Elite Agency Of Investigation, the Mexican equivalent of the FBI. A new article interviews a journalist who suggests Guzman wants to retire, and vanish after undergoing plastic surgery, but not before his final challenge which involves dominating the triangle of Mexico City, the Federal District, and the state of Mexico. However, she doesn't believe he can ever ride away into the sunset entirely with a U.S.-born wife who gave birth to their twin girls in a Los Angeles hospital before returning to Mexico. There are of course varying reports of his date of his date of birth but he pretty much is believed to be in his late 50's. His AMW re-enactment describes him as "short and stocky". And in it, he was listed as 5'6 and 165 pounds. Thoughts? Will he ever be arrested? Keep in mind he was captured in Guatemala in 1993 and extradited to Mexico, and thanks to his money was able to bribe and escape his way out of prison. (He is even on Forbes list of the World's richest people!) So even if he ever got captured, who knows if he wouldn't try to use his money once again. IMO, although there have been strides in capturing a lot of guys in the Mexican drug war, I think the more likely way for him to go down is actually dying in the drug war for real, but we shall see. www.dw.de/the-man-the-myth-el-chapos-drug-dealings/a-17029336en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joaqu%C3%ADn_Guzm%C3%A1n_LoeraEDIT: Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman has been captured in Sinaloa, Mexico. Edit #2: As of July 12th, 2015, "El Chapo" Guzman has once again escaped: www.cnn.com/2015/07/12/world/mexico-el-chapo-escape/index.htmlEdit #3: Guzman was captured for a third time on January 8th, 2016. I personally think it's far more likely that El Chapo will get caught or be killed than his second in command, Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada-Garcia, who got his own full profile on AMW. Anyway, I do read Mexican drug war articles and blogs somewhat frequently, and something that always drives me insane is the number of people who don't think that the Sinaloa Cartel kills innocent people solely because they aren't nearly as bloodthristy as Los Zetas. Honestly, if Cartel De Sinaloa doesn't kill innocent people, why would innocent people in Mexico fear them so much? Chapo, El Mayo and the third in command, Juan "El Azul" Esparragoza-Moreno, could care less if they or their cartel hit men order the murders of innocent people, including law enforcement officials who don't want to work for the cartels, or if innocents are killed in cases of mistaken identity.
As far as Chapo's whereabouts, I still think he's residing in the rural areas of Northern Mexico near the Sinaloa/Durango state border, Durango is where he married his third wife.

I'm not at home but I will delete it when I get the chance.
I'm so happy to see he's caught but because of false rumors such as the death one I didn't believe this initially until I saw how many sources confirmed it.
I do stress however they need to make sure to find a way to keep himin jail this time. I can see him still trying to influence the drug war from behind a cell.

Will he go to court in Mexico or will he be deported to the US to face the charges he has there?

Charlie Minn, the filmmaker who has done documentaries on topics such as Robert Fisher, the 1990 Las Cruces Bowling Alley Massacre and the drug cartel wars in Ciudad Juarez is doing a new documentary on Joaquin Guzman. The documentary will investigate whether the "real" Joaquin Guzman was arrested and if this was all a conspiracy. Considering the previous topics Minn has covered, I'll listen what he has to say about this. Not that I necessarily agree with him, but I'll still listen. www.elpasotimes.com/news/ci_26185244/new-film-questions-whether-real-chapo-guzman-was

He has made good documentaries past and perhaps this is me being a wishful thinker, but it does seem like the film is more asking people if they believe El Chapo was arrested and the legend of El Chapo rather than Minn actually believing it.
