(Above photo credit: Florida Highway Patrol Most Wanted website) Fugitive Profile as of March 29th, 2017: (Based on Florida Public Access System wanted persons search) Date of Birth: 03/26/1987 Sex: MALE Height: 5' 05" From the Florida Highway Patrol Most Wanted website: Carlos Augusto Lacayo was traveling northbound on I-95 in Miami on Saturday, March 05, 2011. Lacayo was operating a grey 2010 Honda Accord 4 door sedan while under the influence. Lacayo approached an area where a previous crash had occurred and the crashed vehicle was in the roadway. There were 5 people from the previous crash who were standing outside the vehicle, against a barrier wall. Lacayo swerved to miss the crashed vehicle and lost control, sliding into the barrier wall and striking all 5 people. All 5 people died as a result of their injuries sustained from being struck by Lacayo. Lacayo may have fled to Honduras. Lacayo has an active warrant out of Miami-Dade for 5 counts DUI Manslaughter. If anyone has information about Carlos Augusto Lacayo they are urged to they are urged to contact Corporal Gerald L. Leandre at GeraldLeandre@flhsmv.gov or contact the Florida Highway Patrol or your local CrimeStoppers. www.flhsmv.gov/florida-highway-patrol/specialized-areas/most-wanted-fugitives/ (scroll down or ctrl + f for Lacayo) Local news article on case: miami.cbslocal.com/2011/09/01/drunk-driver-accused-of-killing-5-now-a-fugitive/Thoughts? I decided in the next few days to add all fugitives from the Florida Highway Patrol Most Wanted list onto our website. I believe this is the deadliest crash for any of the FHP Most Wanted fugitive, as a matter of fact, I don't recall many DUI fugitive cases even on AMW where there were as many as five victims. According to a local news article, Lacayo faces a whopping 75 years in prison if caught. I can only recall Sarkis Peltekian where even more people either dead or were injured as far as still at large DUI fugitives go. This is an extremely horrendous tragedy. This is one of the examples as to why it's dangerous to be on side of an interstate freeway, either due to an impact or if your car stalled on the road, you are defenseless if someone is driving irresponsibly and veers off the main freeway.

Lacayo still on the Florida Highway Patrol's online most wanted list as of October 21st, 2019. Additionally, his name comes up when searching Florida's public access wanted persons database, although they oddly list his warrant as only "traffic offenses." pas.fdle.state.fl.us/pas/restricted/PAS/home/home.jsf

As of today, March 22, 2021, Carlos Lacayo's "traffic offenses" warrant still comes up in Florida's statewide warrants database. The link to the database can be found in Scumhunter's above post.

As of today, May 2, 2022, Carlos Lacayo has an active UFAP (Unlawful Flight To Avoid Prosecution) case in PACER. There have been no case updates since it was filed in 2012.
The document mentions that immigration records confirm Carlos fled to Nicaragua. Unfortunately, the document also mentions that the Florida State Attorney's Office will only seek Carlos's extradition if he is arrested somewhere in the United States. Therefore, I feel that extraditing him out of Central America will be a nightmare.

Unfortunately another case of foreign countries not taking vehicular homicide cases seriously enough. Hopefully we won't have to wait as long for justice in a similar case I'm about to post.
