Real Name: O'Neal Moore
Nicknames: No Known Nicknames
Location: Washington Parish, Louisiana
Date: June 2, 1965
Case
Details: O'Neal Moore was a black sheriff's deputy at a time when most police departments were being integrated. He was partnered with Officer David "Creed" Rogers, another black officer. They were used to harassment, but on the night of June 2, 1965, they were tailgated by a truck which later pulled up alongside the officers, and the occupants began opening fire on them. A neighbor came up to the car to help the two, but Creed was the only one to survive and give a description of the truck and its occupants.
The driver of a similar truck was picked up in Tollertown, Mississippi, but he bonded out on $25,000 bail. The charges were later dropped due to lack of evidence. Suspicion fell on the Ku Klux Klan who denied responsibility. Deputy Doyle Holliday survived a shot as he was doing the investigation. A $25,000 reward was offered by the Louisiana governor, but scared residents refused to cooperate, and the case fell inactive in 1967. It was finally reopened in 1987 after three informants claimed to know the killers. FBI agent Michael Heimback is convinced the killers are members of the Klan. However, the FBI has not enough evidence to arrest anyone as of yet. A $20,000 reward is being offered currently in the case.
Suspects: There are several suspects in the case, but police has not revealed the identities of the men. The Ku Klux Klan is suspected in the case.
Extra Notes: This segment originally aired on the November 14, 1990 episode of Unsolved Mysteries.
Results: Unresolved. In 2001, the case was again re-opened. In 2003, the prime suspect in the case died without ever being charged. Then in 2007, David "Creed" Rogers passed away without ever learning who killed his partner. In 2009, the case was re-opened by the Civil Rights-era Cold Case Initiative. However, no one has been arrested in the case.
