(Above photo credit: anchoragecrimestoppers.com) Fugitive Profile as of August 25th, 2014 (Based on Anchorage Crime Stoppers website): Name: Ruben Fernandez Sex: Male Race: Hispanic DOB: 03/24/74 Height: 6ft 2in Weight: 150 lbs Hair: Black TIPS: If you have any information on the whereabouts of Ruben Fernandez, you can submit a web tip to Anchorage Crime Stoppers by clicking on this link: www.tipsubmit.com/WebTips.aspx?AgencyID=124 Ruben Fernandez is a rare fugitive wanted out of Alaska. He was the original 50/50 fugitive out of Alaska but was not aired after that. Authorities in Anchorage say that on the evening of May 20, 1995, Fernandez got into an argument with a rival gang member named David Burdette. He shot and killed Burdette in the parking lot of a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant. Investigators believe he fled to either New York or the Dominican Republic. Thoughts? I presume he fled to either of those locations. Perhaps because of the lack of attention, he managed to stay under the radar in New York. www.anchoragecrimestoppers.com/wanteds.aspxUPDATE from site admin: As of July 23rd, 2018, Fernandez is still listed as a wanted fugitive on Anchorage Crime Stoppers: www.anchoragecrimestoppers.com/sitemenu.aspx?ID=124&P=wanteds&Admin Note: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

It is very rare to discuss an Alaskan AMW fugitive on this forum.
Usually the safe bet is that the fugitive fled back to their native country. And even though AMW has caught fugitives in the Dominican Republic before, the fact that they haven't aired him since may hint authorities feel he is well-hidden there.
But, on the other hand, both New York and the DR are geographically so far away from Alaska either is logical.

This won't explain why the next case I'm posting was only aired on the 2000 50/50 show, but I can safely guess that Fernandez was only aired once because it was gang-on-gang violence. Gang-on-gang violence fugitives almost never get frequently aired on AMW unless innocent people were harmed. Despite that, Ruben still needs to be apprehended for the sake of the victim’s family. They deserve justice, regardless of how long that wait has been.

Ruben Fernandez was finally arrested by the US Marshals in the Dominican Republic back in February! He has since been extradited back to Alaska. Glad to see that authorities did not give up in their objective to apprehend Ruben. law.alaska.gov/press/releases/2022/031422-Fernandez.html
