The New York bomb blast wounded 29 victims, and he wounded 5 cops with his gunfire. That's 34 wounded in both crimes. If Rahami was behind it, then how would the public respond to a 340 year sentence with parole in 170 years? That's what 5 to 10 years for each confirmed wounded victim so far would work out to.

I think he faces 20 years each for five counts of attempted murder of police officers. So that's at least 100 years plus the bombings. Pretty sure he's never getting out of jail anyway so any huge number like that would be purely symbolic.

This case is not entirely over as the FBI is seeking two individuals who they stress are merely only wanted for questioning as potential witnesses and at the moment not believed to be in the plot of the actual bombings, but are on video coming across the pipe bomb that didn't go off in Chelsea. Closed circuit television recordings indicate that these individuals allegedly located a piece of luggage on the sidewalk, removed an improvised explosive device from the luggage, and then left the vicinity leaving the device behind but taking the luggage. Right now the general theory from what I've seen on tv and read articles is that authorities believe these two men just happened to come across the luggage, decided to steal it, and actually inadvertently dismantled the bomb by removing it and just taking the suitcase (an only in New York story, "hey that's perfectly good luggage to steal, yeah let's just put that bomb somewhere else!" lol). But obviously finding these men and recovering that luggage for evidence, and also helping to prove the case against Rahami as him acting alone would be helpful. www.fbi.gov/wanted/seeking-info/unknown-individuals-new-york
