Surveillance video released by DeSoto police to KDFW-TV (Fox 4) appears to link a woman to the killing of her husband nearly three years ago.
Police initially treated the disappearance of Simon Montalvo, his wife and two sons as a missing persons case in April 2013. But after Simon Montalvo’s brothers found him buried amid rocks in his own backyard two weeks later, it was clear to police that he had been killed.
The 43-year-old was shot six times. The children turned up in Indiana, with Maria Montalvo’s relatives. She remains on the run, and may be in Mexico, police told Fox 4 recently.
Police suspect Maria Montalvo fatally shot her husband one night in 2013, while their two children were sleeping in the couple’s home. One of their sons told detectives he heard Mom and Dad arguing before going to bed. He woke up to three loud “claps” during the night, but his mom told him later that a cabinet had turned over,” according to court records obtained by Fox 4.
“He didn’t believe her,” the court records state.
Police later found surveillance video showing Maria Montalvo drag something wrapped in trash bags and a sheet out of her SUV. Police say she spent the rest of the night cleaning the house.
The next morning, she took the children to school and returned home with large rocks that police say she used to cover her husband’s body.
“We were floored watching this video,” Will McGraw, a DeSoto police detective, told Fox 4. “Some of those officers, and even I think the family members, were in disbelief that Maria would do this.”
