SPARKS, Nev., (KOLO) Investigators have long ago identified a suspect in a string of home invasion rapes and robberies in 2011, but they've never been able to find him. Now they're asking for the public's help.
The crimes were particularly disturbing. The victims were older women. One was 85.
They arrived home to find an intruder waiting, having turned interior lights out. He told one he had been watching her for months.
The assaults put whole neighborhoods on edge. Women said they didn't go out after dark. Men called the unknown rapist a coward, a cockroach. Some wished they could catch him themselves."
It was a reaction Sparks Police detectives understood,
"In cases like this it not only affects victims and victim's families," says Det. Ken Gallop. "It affects the whole community."
One victim was blindfolded, another got a good enough look to provide a detailed description which led to a composite drawing.
After sexually assaulting his victims, he took debit cards and when he used them, investigators got a better look at the man they were looking for in a pair of security camera videos.
The suspect was eventually identified as Alfredo Lomeli-Garcia, now 38 years old.
He's wanted fir burglary, attempted sexual assault, robbery with the use of a deadly weapon, battery with intent to commit sexual assault and sexual assault,.
He's never been found. and his whereabouts are today unknown, The U-S Marshals Service says he may have fled to Mexico.
Wherever he is, a U-S Marshal told KOLO 8 News Now, it's likely he's continuing to rape women.
In any case it's believed some in our area may know where he is.
"We absolutely need the public's assistance in bringing him to justice," says Gallop.
Anyone with information is asked to call the U-S Marshals office in Reno at (775) 525-4715 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900.
Callers to Secret Witness may remain anonymous while collecting cash rewards. They've ;posted a $1500 reward for information leading to Lomeli-Garcia's arrest and prosecution.
Thoughts? Kind of scary to wonder what's happened since 2011 in regards to Lomeli-Garcia. So many of these home invasion rapists turn into murderers later on. as we've seen with the Original Night Stalker case.
