Throwback Thursday: This week 20 years ago was the beginning of the killing spree perpetrated by Andrew Cunanan, who was the 449th fugitive added to the FBI's Top 10 list in 1997. He committed several murders in Minnesota, 1 in New Jersey and 1 in Florida before being found dead in a boathouse in North Miami Beach, Florida on July 24, 1997. minnesota.cbslocal.com/2017/05/03/andrew-cunanan-20-years/I just graduated middle school back when the manhunt happened, and this case was all over the news. I remember watching MSNBC every night for updates on the case (back then it was more news-themed at night as opposed to them and Fox News's now opinion-themed prime time coverage). What was frustrating was AMW nearly caught Andrew Cunanan multiple times during his crime spree (and before he murdered Gianni Versace in Florida.) I remember they interviewed John Walsh on MSNBC during the boathouse drama where the house was surrounded and Cunanan shot himself, which played out on live on tv. Wow they even had it all go down on live T.V.? Did they at least censor when he ended himself? (Sorry it was 1997 and I was only fetus in my mothers stomach when it happened in July 1997 lol) It was great that news then focused on well..... actual news, this manhunt had to be something big as it extended for 2 months. Andrew Cunanan, Resendez-Ramirez and Nikoly Soltys were all spree killers that were added to the same list and I bet there was fear about one of these individuals being in ones community or being the next target.

They didn't actually show Cunanan shoot himself. It was similar to the Chris Dorner manhunt. A house was surrounded, everyone knew he was in there and it was a matter of what would happen next. I can't entirely recall if the news stated at the opening that a gunshot was heard right before they got to the house or during the stand-off. But they showed the house, knew a gunshot was heard, but didn't know what that meant until they finally went in there and saw he was dead. I hate to glorify it but it was admittedly pretty riveting to watch.

Halfway into 2017, the FBI ten most wanted has had a somewhat slow year due to recent developments in Washington, thus leaving the list at 2 captures for the moment.
The FBI has added only 2 fugitives so far, Walter Gomez and Bhadreshkumar Patel, whose additions I think were appropriate in both cases.
In 2017 we've captured 2 and added 2, so it's pulled even.
So far it's been great (even though it's slow) because the April additions were great and they are actually difficult and challenging fugitives.

Trying to be as apolitical as I can but I knew he'd probably name a new nominee right around Comey's testimony lol. Also trying to be apolitical, but right now Wray has only been nominated. He will have to be confirmed in in a very political and controversial environment. And while the Senate is majority Republican, there is still sure to be heated hearings. On paper, he has law enforcement credentials, worked in the justice department, and on paper would be a less controversial pick than if Trump had nominated a politician like Joe Lieberman. (Lieberman dropped out as a potential nominee even admitting that would look bad). However, it wouldn't have mattered who Trump picked for some because of the controversy. Logic would say Trump picked someone who on paper has credentials as to not get into a fight in the Senate after all the controversy he received for firing Comey. However, I will wait for the hearings, and if Wray is confirmed, I will hold no judgments and give him the benefit of the doubt that he will be an independent and good FBI director. But of course, now comes the hearings

Just wanted to bring up the fact that today marks 1 year since Shanika Minor's Capture and the last time we've had a full list of 10 on the FBI ten most wanted list.
For those who have watched the list over the course of the past year, we haven't had a full list since 07/01/16 and we still don't at the current moment.
Any thoughts?

For those who have watched the list over the course of the past year, we haven't had a full list since 07/01/16 and we still don't at the current moment. Any thoughts? The fact that we haven't had a full wanted list for a year is a good thing because it means the ones they've been adding have been getting captured. Although they currently have an "acting" FBI Director, the system is still pretty much in place so I wouldn't be surprised if they had a new addition soon. It is weird that we haven't heard much about Chris Wray since Trump announced his nomination on (of course) Twitter. He has a justice department background and wasn't at anytime an elected politician which was a sticking point for some but there also seems to be some controversy that he was New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's personal attorney during the "Bridgegate" scandal. Although Christie technically survived the scandal in that he's still the state's Governor, it pretty much ruined all his future political ambitions as he had a failed Presidential run and then even President Trump wouldn't put him in his cabinet. This doesn't sit well with some but others say Wray was just doing his job I personally am reserving judgment until the Senate confirmation hearings. I'm hoping this was a "eh he has some credentials so I guess he'll do and will be the one I'll get the least crap about" pick by Trump but we shall see. If he's confirmed, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he has good intentions. Sorry I went off on a tangent but it reminded me that Wray is not in place yet.

Perhaps once Chris Wray has his hearing we could see a new addition within the first month or two of his tenure. Also the hearings are expected soon and he is officially the nominee. However having a new director means he'll likely take the list on a new path.

I keep hearing that his hearing (that's a nice play on words lol) is expected soon but I don't see much in the news about it. He might take the list on a new path but there is usually a process in place where the different field offices submit candidates. I know the FBI Director is the main guy but there does seem to be some sort of collaborative effort in many cases so I wouldn't be surprised if the list doesn't change that much.

I feel slightly relieved now as I liked the idea of adding recent fugitives because it really has and will keep working out well I assume. Also I searched Christopher Wray and all they talk about is "Senate Hearings soon" and all that crap and I'm like, "when is soon?"

Here's an article explaining how the names are submitted by the 56 FBI field offices. The Criminal Investigation Division and FBI public affairs office settles on a candidate- and then it goes go the FBI Director for final approval. So really it's just Comey, Mueller etc... getting a name and saying "ok" or "nah I want someone else" rather than them personally making the selection. www.cbsnews.com/news/how-the-fbi-picks-its-ten-most-wanted-list/

I dunno it it's because of the political controversy or because we're going into the summer or what lol.

Must be both but let's remember that Shanika Minor was added on June 28, 2016 technically during Summer and the FBI added Michael Registe in late July of 2008.
