Tyrom Theis is wanted for the robbery of a gas station where he shot and killed three employees back in 1994.
Theis used to work at the Leather's Oil Company gas station. He was described as a reliable employee, one who was always on time. The only bit of trouble he got in was when he took $30 from the till. He confessed to the theft and was suspended. While on leave, Theis claimed he needed a change of scenery, and that he wouldn't be coming back.
In January 1994, Theis and two accomplices robbed the gas station at gunpoint. Theis knew when the weekend receipts would be full, but did not know how many employees would be there. After collecting around $9000, Theis rounded up the three employees: Mary Beth Garey, Kay Endicott, and Rosalie Girtz, into the workshop and made them lie face down. He then shot all three of them in the head. He stayed in town for a few days, but fled after he heard his two accomplices confessed.
There was some debate back on the old forum as to whether or not Theis is still alive. I personally believe he is dead. His distinctive features (way over 6', giant panther tattoo, that toothy grin, etc) would give him away pretty quickly I would imagine. The questions are, if he's alive, where is he? I can't see him lasting long in Mexico.
And if he's dead, what happened? There are two schools of thought. One is that he was murdered by his accomplices, one of whom killed himself shortly after being arrested. The other is that he committed suicide after the rampage. Some have likened this case to that of Beacher Hackney, someone who was pissed off with his workplace and looked for revenge, with no intentions of leaving alive. I don't buy that though, Theis chose to walk away from his job. And while it's not the biggest amount, $9000 is a pretty big amount for a gas station. I truly believe robbery was the motive, and Theis decided not to leave any witnesses. And if he planned on suicide, why wait until his accomplices cracked to do it?
