Guess who's been charged with the murders of the McStay family? "Close friend" Chase Merritt. Can't say I'm surprised even though this is technically a twist. I didn't want to accuse a guy who was technically innocent and claimed to be a friend which is why I never said anything before but he struck me as funny in the CNN interviews. Should have went with my gut instinct. I do want to hear more about this however, as it seemed like a crime where multiple people had to be involved. Wondering if they believe Merritt physically carried out the killings or had someone else do his dirty work for him. www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/nov/07/mcstay-homicide-case-san-bernardino-fallbrook/

A new article explains it a little better know as the McStay family was said to have been killed in their home- all as the result of blunt force trauma. Every media story on the case made it sound like there was no signs of a murder in the house itself and the McStay family had suddenly abandoned the house to try to escape someone. Which means either it was later discovered the murders took place in the house after all and/or information was purposely withheld for the investigation. Either is fine with me since whatever the strategy was resulted in an arrest. It still seemed a bit much for Merritt to take out four people at once though even if only one was an adult male. Wondering if they'll expand or if I'll be correct, but my theory is perhaps Chase killed Joseph first and waited for the rest of the family later throughout the day. (Or in any manner a time span in which Joseph was by himself) www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/11/07/missing-mcstay-suspect-arrested/18652391/

A new article has come out about Merritt's planned book. They interview Patrick McStay who said he initially didn't suspect Merritt, but started to become suspicious when he would call him to talk about the planned work, at one point asking him if he wanted to collaborate on it. Patrick McStay says he played along to gather as much information as he could. The book was reportedly called "Afraid of the Light." A amwfans.com forum Facebook fan had a better suggestion- "If I Did It." www.cbsnews.com/news/man-arrested-in-mcstay-murders-was-writing-book-about-case/

A jury has recommended the death penalty for Chase Merritt.
Once again even without the governor's moratorium California has/had such a backlog of those awaiting execution it's more likely he'll end up dying in prison while on death row (this ruling is legally the death penalty but unofficially more symbolic than anything else), but justice was still served and glad to see justice was served.

If nothing else,he'll be in lockdown 24/7. Good enough for me.
