Wow, glad there has FINALLY been an arrest in this horrible family murder case! It looks like Christopher Ewing wasn't going to stop allegedly attacking people while he was free and on the streets, as evident by the fact that he attacked another couple with an axe after escaping from law enforcement custody. Nothing will ever be able to take back the sheer carnage that went on that night in 1984, but hopefully Final Justice can finally be served and this case put to rest.

Also glad this man has been brought to justice if not for the amount of victims but also because of the horribly brutal way in which they were killed which makes him all the more dangerous and his high probability to have killed again had he not been arrested for another similar crime also wanted to point out that again the computer generated images by parabon nanolabs of this suspect looks quite similar to Ewing in my opinion although that may just be me but it seems pretty accurate although obviously imperfect www.realclearlife.com/crime/mile-high-killer-hammer-wielding-psychopaths-forgotten-rampage/

[...] wanted to point out that again the computer generated images by parabon nanolabs of this suspect looks quite similar to Ewing in my opinion although that may just be me but it seems pretty accurate [...] No I agree, I was shocked too. The noses and mouth especially look identical. It's amazing what DNA can do and what cold cases are being solved lately. It's good to know that he has been behind bars for most of the time this mystery has been unsolved though. I'll be curious if more details come out about Ewing, like if he indeed was a carpenter, or why he was in Colorado in the first place. I also wonder how he chose his victims, though this guy definitely does not seem to be in his right place of mind, so there may be some things about this case that we just never know.

Just a note that I changed the connotation for this thread. Usually we put captured or arrest but from what I read arrest warrants were issued but Ewing was already in jail. So he wasn't technically captured/arrested as a result of this case but I'm assuming will eventually have to answer on these charges. So I put solved since as far as law enforcement is concerned the case is solved- even though Ewing is still presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Sorry for the mumbo-jumbo that might have confused us even more. At the end of the day, the great news that the case seems pretty much solved still stands.

By the way, there's only one reason that the Colorado authorities sought John Doe warrants against the suspect back in 2002: They are going to go for the death penalty. Right now, Ewing already meets numerous aggravating circumstances under CO Law for the death penalty: (2) The defendant was previously convicted in this state of a class 1 or 2 felony involving violence as specified in section 18-1.3-406, or was previously convicted by another state or the United States of an offense which would constitute a class 1 or 2 felony involving violence as defined by Colorado law in section 18-1.3-406; (9) In the commission of the offense, the defendant knowingly created a grave risk of death to another person in addition to the victim of the offense; (10) The defendant committed the offense in an especially heinous, cruel, or depraved manner; (12) The defendant unlawfully and intentionally, knowingly, or with universal malice manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life generally, killed two or more persons during the commission of the same criminal episode; (13) The defendant intentionally killed a child who has not yet attained twelve years of age; (16) The defendant intentionally killed more than one person in more than one criminal episode.
