On October 4th, 1992, Samuel Avalos Gallardo killed Gary Ray Selby Jr. while driving drunk in Reno, Nevada. Gallardo's car went off the ramp heading in the wrong direction, crashing head-on into Gary’s vehicle killing him instantly. Gallardo was also charged with Serious Bodily Injury to two of the passengers that were in Gary’s vehicle.
Gallardo was convicted and sentenced on April 29, 1993 to 40-years, 20-years for the death, 10-years for each Serious Bodily Injuries, which ran concurrent to the first 20-years.
Gallardo escaped from the Nevada Department of Prisons on February 25, 1994. He escaped from that custody at the Stewart Conservation Camp located within Carson City, State of Nevada.
Thoughts? It's rather eerie how this case is almost EXACTLY like the Chris Ponce case- drunk-driver on the wrong side of the freeway, one person killed, two others seriously injured.
According to a master list sent in from a long-time AMW viewer, this case was aired on the show. Unfortunately, Gallardo is confirmed still at large, the Nevada DOC page still lists him as an escapee, and the website Fugitive Watch (fugitive.com) did a story on him earlier in the year.
Also, I don't see anything about how he escaped, but sometimes that information isn't available for a reason.
What this case really needs is an age-progressed photo, but for what it's worth, according to the Nevada DOC lookup, Gallardo is only 4'8. So his height (or lack thereof) is in my opinion a possible clue.
P.S. The only reason I'm linking to an anti-illegal criminals site is it describes the Gallardo case if you scroll down, and also mentions he may have fled to Mexico. As I always stress, most immigrants, legal or otherwise, come here looking for a better life. We definitely need to do something about illegal immigrants who are criminals, but not every one is. Just so people don't think I'm making some sort of statement by linking to the site.
