Orit Tuil is one of the FBI's most wanted white collar fugitives. Below is the archive description of her case:
"Orit Tuil is wanted for her alleged participation in a large-scale real estate scheme in New York, New York. As a real estate broker, Tuil would allegedly find straw buyers to purchase houses, or she would get people whose houses were in foreclosure to transfer the deeds to their houses to her. Once she had the deeds, she would then obtain mortgages and sell the properties to other straw buyers. A federal arrest warrant was issued on June 16, 2010, in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York, and Tuil was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud."
Thoughts? I hadn't added a planned financial fugitive to this section (Paul Ceglia was breaking news) for quite a while, and this case stood out to me as particularly callous. No wonder the FBI called the investigation into Tuil and others "Operation Stolen Dreams." You had people thinking they were going to purchase a house, getting mortgages even, I'm assuming for some it might have been their first home, and then their dreams are ripped away by this con. And even worse, some people whose homes were already in foreclosure and already in dire straits had what little they had left allegedly taken from Tuil as well. I never get these financial fugitives, and how they have no conscience whatsoever. They know this con will destroy lives, and do it anyway.
Unfortunately, it seems a matter of cooperation between countries since Tuil is possibly in Israel. While the U.S. and Israel have an extradition treaty and a decent historic relationship with each other, each case varies and extraditions are always complicated processes. In addition, Israel did not extradite it's own citizens until 1999. So if Tuil is in Israel, while she can potentially be extradited, it will take some communication.
Justice needs to prevail in this case, and Tuil can't get away with allegedly destroying innocent victims' lives.
