Daniel Chafe, better known to those in his Roseburg, Oregon neighborhood by his alias of Stryder Styarfyr is an alleged pedophile who was profiled a few times on AMW in the 2000's, and on Unsolved Mysteries in 2002 as well. In one of the most bizarre stories I've seen on AMW, Chafe/Styarfyr used a fantasy story that he was of his royal Celtic blood to take advantage of his victims. He was recently added to the FBI.Gov website and here is his profile of his alleged crimes from the 1990's: Daniel Clement Chafe is wanted for rape, sexual abuse, and sodomy in Roseburg, Oregon. Chafe was allegedly recruiting minor females between the ages of 14 and 16 in order to form what he called the "Cobalt Clan". His reported goal was to have sex with these young girls in order to produce a large number of children over which he could rule. At the time that he was allegedly recruiting and having sex with these girls, Chafe was also married. During the investigation of these charges, Chafe had moved to Alto, New Mexico, where he worked for a local Internet service provider. On September 13, 1998, Chafe was on a fishing trip on the Snake River in Washington State. On that date, a friend with whom Chafe was fishing informed local law enforcement authorities that Chafe had fallen out of the boat and was allegedly missing. The local police were unable to locate Chafe and he has remained a fugitive since that time. Chafe was scheduled to be in court for trial in Douglas County, Oregon, on September 23, 1998, but failed to appear. According to a Unsolved Mysteries wiki page, Chafe/Styarfyr has been spotted in New Mexico, Coloroado, Wyoming, and Canada. My personal belief is he may be in Canada, but the truth is and perhaps this is why he's so hard to catch, is that he may be anywhere, especially with his skills on the computer, where he could have found employment anywhere. I can even see him in California since that is where a lot of computer and internet companies are located. www.fbi.gov/wanted/cac/daniel-clement-chafe/viewunsolvedmysteries.wikia.com/wiki/Stryder_Styarfyr

My opinion is that he's residing somewhere in rural America/Canada, judging on where he's apparently been spotted and has resided before he went on the run.

Daniel Clement "Styarfyr" Chafe was my 19th most wanted fugitive of '005.
If he's not in North America, I could only imagine he'd be laying low in Ireland's Celtic enclave.

I just realized the irony that I made this thread on St. Patrick's Day.

I wonder if there's ever been any reported sightings of him at renaissance fairs. He'd probably blend in very well.
For the longest time, whenever AMW aired this case, they would use one of Chafe's old photos from the 80s before he went on the run as his "profile picture." Apparently, at least regarding the website, investigators complained because Chafe's 1998 mugshot (his most recent) has been the default amw.com photo since two weeks after his first profile.
You have to think that, for someone who told such elaborate lies and stories, and followed through with it for so long, he's still doing it. I realize it was just so he could get ahold of young girls, but I have a hard time believing that he stopped telling these fantasy stories just because he became a fugitive. Heck, he had everybody convinced his name was Stryder Styarfyr for who knows how long, and that's apparently his biological daughter's last name! His ex-wife even called him Stryder during her AMW interview.
It's so baffling to me that he hasn't been found.

Hi nothingnew, I already sent you a message but obviously a little too late. I saw your registration message and advised against posting an exact location if you knew where he was, but obviously you're just looking for advice on a picture here which is different. Am I 100% certain it's him? No. But I can see why you see a resemblance. Do you have any other information on this man? Such as if his interests match up? Any references to Celtic culture? It would help make a better educated guess. (EDIT: Now I feel guilty since I'm probably the only site member besides nothingnew to see the picture, but without giving anything away for anything wondering it was a pic of a man on a website she felt looked a lot like Chafe. I didn't remove it but I can understand nothingnew wants to be on the safe side and has already submitted this info)

Worst case scenario is you found a look-a-like. The man doesn't know you submitted info and the FBI is only going to arrest someone if they think it's them. You did the right thing.

No problem. Also, deleted your last post. You didn't do anything wrong, just thought it might have given a little too much info away if the lead is being investigated. Good luck! Feel free to post in the future or message me to let me/us know if anything comes out of it!

Cool. As I said in my private message, the bizarre thing is I was just recently thinking about this case.

Interestingly enough, the article states he was in consideration for the FBI top 10 list. That would have been interesting considering his cold case status (it would be like an Edward Harper redux). But looks like we no longer have to worry about that!
