(Above photo credit: turner.com) Margie Pointer was murdered 27 years ago in New Mexico. Her case was recently profiled on the true crime show "Cold Justice". On Nov 20, 1987, Margie disappeared in the parking lot of a hotel in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Margie lived with her son and husband who was stationed overseas in active military service at the time. On Mar 18, 2004, a forest thinning crew located her skeletal remains near Cloudcroft, New Mexico, they were identified by using dental records. In 2014, investigators enlisted the help of detectives from the TNT show "Cold Justice" to assist them in the case. The detectives located two witnesses who gave valuable information, including the fact that Margie had a heated argument with someone who was already a person of interest in the case. At the time, investigators hoped they would have enough evidence to charge that person with Margie's murder. --- Thoughts? I don't know what other possible evidence investigators have on this person of interest so I can't speculate, but after 17 years in the elements, Margie's remains probably weren't of any help. So we have a witness who recalled Margie having a heated argument with someone right before she disappeared. That alone doesn't prove that person committed this murder, which is why more information is needed. www.alamogordonews.com/ci_17240826krqe.com/2014/07/23/alamogordo-cold-case-to-be-featured-on-tnt/Admin Note #1: Based on online articles, our advice for anyone with information on this would be to call Crime Stoppers U.S.A. at 1-800-222-TIPSAdmin Note #2: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

While stranger things do happen, it almost sounds too coincidental this alleged argument happens right before Margie disappeared. Unfortunately, however, the evidence unfortunately seems circumstantial at the moment at best. Not every case works like CSI or NCIS, but any kind of DNA breakthrough would be helpful which unfortunately also does not seem possible at this time.

They provided an update on the case on the "Justice Served" special with John Walsh last night. Basically, Pete Mullins, Margie's boss at work has always been the prime suspect. However, New Mexico's law currently is that there is a statute of limitations of just six years for second degree murder. (Which I find ridiculous). The Cold Justice team had to go for 1st degree murder or broke. Mullins case was presented to the DA's office who said they did not have a strong enough case for 1st degree- only 2nd.
This prompted the Detective working the case along with Margie's sister to rally to have the law changed, which so far has been gaining traction and had an 8-0 initial committee vote.
The Detective also hinted there may be hope in the future that Mullins can finally be charged.

A June 2016 article mentions the case remains open and could possibly catch a major break after detectives found new technology that can recreate the area where Pointer’s body was dumped. The FARO laser scanner is a 3-D laser imaging device that can recreate areas of a scene using distance and depth measurement points per seconds. It’s usually used for crash scenes, but the Alamogordo detective interviewed felt it could be used for this case as well. www.abqjournal.com/780398/nm-police-use-new-technology-in-pointers-cold-case.html
