KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A mother is still fighting for justice as a killer remains on the run one year after her four-year-old boy became the victim of a drive by shooting in Kansas City, Mo.
Aydan Perea was shot in the head as his father put him in his car seat in December, 2012.
Over the past year, his mother, Lindsey Connor, has dealt with her grief by trying to focus on catching her son’s killer. No one has been arrested in his murder.
“My baby was a beautiful baby boy and he was innocent,” said Connor. “It’s just the one year anniversary of my baby getting shot. Nothing much has changed since he got shot.”
Police have been looking for Martin Olmedo but have had a hard time finding him.
“We do know that he went across the border, I do know that he’s got a warrant for second degree murder,” said Connor. “I don’t think we have a whole lot to go on because he ran and he went to Mexico.”
Unfortunately Kansas City, Mo. police said they are not able to pick Olmedo up due to a lengthy extradition process.
First, the court must translate the transcripts into Spanish. Then, the Department of Justice and the State Department must issue a provisional arrest warrant for the arrest of someone in another country, which is the next step to be completed in the process. The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office has been working with the Department of Justice in order to get that warrant.
After the warrant is obtained, Olmedo has to be located in Mexico and the Mexican police must be willing to go get him. However, if he is a citizen of Mexico, and is facing the death penalty or a life sentence, the Mexican government will not hand him over.
“Is he down there with his mom? Is he down there with his dad, enjoying his family while we are up here dealing with the loss of ours?” asked Connor.
While justice for her son’s death could take a while, Connor said she is willing to wait.
“I do know we will get him one day or another. I don’t care if it is next month or the next 10 years or 20, I don’t care,” said Connor. “I don’t want this to die down. I don’t want this to happen to anyone else.”
Law enforcement does not know how long it will take to get Olmedo back. Before it is all over, more people could be charged. Police are still looking for any eyewitnesses to this crime.

Thoughts? Sadly the family of Aydan is at the mercy of the Mexican Government cooperating in locating and apprehending Martin Olmedo. Lindsey Connor is willing to wait to get justice for her son, but Olmedo needs to be caught soon. According to other articles I read, multiple people were in the car that opened fire on Aydan so there could be more arrests coming in the future.

UPDATE from site admin: I could not find any new articles online in the three years since HeadMarshal's original posting on this case. As far as I can tell, Olmedo is still at large as of this update (7/27/2018), since I couldn't find anything online suggesting otherwise. However, if anyone has any updates/proof-of-updates one way or the other, they are always more than welcome to let us know.
Admin Note #1: Based on wanted location, our advice for anyone with information on Martin Olmedo's whereabouts would be to contact Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers: kccrimestoppers.com/
