Police: Family Man Murdered By L.A. Gangster
To those who knew him, Cesar Valenzeula was the consummate family man who constantly worked hard to provide for his longtime partner, her stepson and their daughter. Working several gigs as a handyman, Cesar often worked long hours, but family members say that hardly kept him from making sure they were taken care of.
In October 2008, Cesar took a job working at a home in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Silverlake, but from the start, he had a bad feeling about the tenant who was living there, Alan Machain.
Cops say Machain, who they say is a local gang member, had found his way to the triplex on Silverlake Blvd. through his brother, who was friends with the property's owner.
Machain would come and go, sometimes not showing up in the apartment for days. Cesar worked most days on the property and police say there was no indication that the two had ever had an argument.
But on October 8, 2008, Cesar never picked up his daughter from day care. His longtime girlfriend, Blanca, began to worry as the night went on, and there was no word from the usually conscientious Cesar.
His family knew something was wrong, but they didn't know what. They filed a missing persons report, and for a few days, police and Cesar's family hoped and waited.
Murder Suspect Caught On Tape
On October 13, 2008, police made a horrifying discovery: Cesar's body was discovered in the home he was working on.
He had been shot while working in the bathroom. Stranger still, cops realized that one of Cesar's hands were missing; it seems the killer had chopped it off and taken it.
Police thought Machain could be the man behind Cesar's murder and soon started connecting the dots. On October 15, 2009, Cesar's truck was discovered one block from Machain's mother's house in Los Angeles.
Furthermore, police soon began seeing Machain's face on surveillance cameras across town.
The first time was hours after Cesar went missing on October 9, when Machain was seen at a Bank of America in Long Beach.
The following day at 4:17 a.m., Machain is caught on tape driving Cesar's truck and using his debit cart at a Chevron gas station. Fifteen minutes later, Machain is picked up on another surveillance camera using a Wells Fargo bank ATM in Compton.
After that, police say Machain's trail went cold, and hope that AMW viewers can help locate him.
Police say Alan Machain is a member of the Compton Barrio 70's and could be using his gang connections to stay underground. Cops say he could be in Mexico or California.
Thoughts? Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this case was either a full-profile on AMW or at the very least was longer than 2 minutes.
It's rather odd that there was never reports of any argument whatsoever so what I'd really like to know is a motive as to why Machain would kill a beloved family man. Was it just simply robbery or something else?
UPDATE: On June 21st, 2017, Machine was arrested in Tijuana, Mexico and has now been extradited back to the United States.
